Twemlow Parish Council

about the parish

The parish of Twemlow is located approximately 15 miles (24 kilometers) to the south of Manchester, in the County of Cheshire. The parish centers around a small village of the same name, and extends to the borders of Goostrey, Holmes Chapel, Lower Withington and Cranage.

The Parish was originally built up around agriculture, but now is also home to a well renowned restaurant, a number of business premises and a private school. Its name is believed to have developed during the time of Anglo-Saxon Britain, and may refer to burial grounds in the parish's vicinity. The name 'Twemlow' is also a surname, and information about genealogical research undertaken into this can be found at twemlows.com.

Undoubtedly, the Parish's most famed feature is it's incredible 30-meter high Victorian viaduct which spans the adjacent Dane Valley to carry trains on the Manchester-Crewe line. It is also located just a few miles from the world-famous Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope.

The Parish is home to approximately 150 residents who enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding countryside along with the convenience of suitable proximity to larger towns, the M6 motorway, and Manchester.
